Ms. Washienko is an experienced employment attorney with
expertise in executive
employment contract negotiations and litigation. She was named by Boston
Magazine
as Massachusetts Rising Star in the field of Labor and Employment Law
in both 2005
and 2006.
Ms. Washienko routinely handles complex six-seven and eight-figure
contract and
severance negotiations on behalf of executives and coaches; she also regularly
represents individuals who have claims of unlawful employment discrimination.
When it has been necessary, Ms. Washienko has litigated employment cases
to
successful resolution, at state and federal courts and governmental agencies.
Ms. Washienko served as co-counsel in Stonehill College v. MCAD, 441 Mass.
549 (2004), a landmark discrimination case that Massachusetts Lawyer’s
Weekly
described as the Most Important Decision of 2004 because it rewrote the
way
bias cases are handled in Massachusetts.
Ms. Washienko is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association
and the Boston
Bar Association, and has served on the Steering Committee for the BBA’s
Labor &
Employment Section. Ms. Washienko is actively involved in continuing legal
education,
serving as co-chair of the MCLE seminar series “Supreme Court Year
in Review:
Employment Law” and as a frequent panelist for numerous other MCLE
employment
law seminars. She has published several articles on employment law issues
particularly relevant to executives and has served as a quarterly commentator
for the Massachusetts Discrimination Law Reporter.
Before founding her own firm, Ms. Washienko was associated
with Perkins Smith &
Cohen LLP, where she practiced in the firm’s Trial and Labor, Employment
and Employee Benefits Departments for five years. Prior to entering private
practice at PS&C, Ms. Washienko served as a law clerk to the Justices
of the Massachusetts Superior Court. Ms. Washienko earned an A.B. with
honors from Harvard University in 1988; she earned her J.D. with honors
from Boston University School of Law in 1998.
Ms. Washienko is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts,
the United States District
Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the First Circuit Court of
Appeals.
